The best way to organize a collection, of any kind, is to use specialized software. It is much more efficient and fast than browsing through your shelves or your computer's hard drive and writing down names and descriptions. ReportCD makes it possible to organize various collections in separate databases, which can be saved as a single file. Its searching and sorting features will help you find a specific item instantly.

You will not have to install additional tools or services before starting the setup process. After downloading the 13 Mb installation kit, you just need to run it, go through a few straightforward steps and the software will be ready in a few seconds.

The interface makes it easy to organize your collections. With the options on the toolbar, you can access different sections, where you may catalog your software, games, music and more. A collection's items are displayed in a tree menu, on the left side of the interface and in a list on the larger area on the right. The software lets you switch to different views, including large or small icons, list, details or thumbnails, just like in Windows Explorer.

A new item can be added to the database with a toolbar button, a context menu option or an option from the Database menu. These will bring up a new window with a series of dialog boxes and drop menus, where you may insert various information, related to your new item. Depending on what type of entry you want to create, you will find different options. For example, if you add a game to the database, you may insert its name, version, genre, language, platform (PC, XBOX, PS3, etc), year rating, etc. If you have it on your computer, you can also specify its path on the hard drive.

It is possible to catalog a disk partition or a folder as well. After clicking the Scan button on the toolbar, a tree menu and a few options will be displayed on a separate window. A folder can be selected in the tree menu and after a quick scanning process, all the folder's contents will be displayed in the interface's Catalog section.

When creating an item, it is possible to associate an index number as well. The software will fill in the Index field automatically. If you insert a third item to a database, the index field will contain the number three by default. If you need to find an item fast, you can make use of ReportCD's search feature, filter the items by their names, genres, years and so on. It is also possible to sort them by their names or index numbers.

Pros

The software lets you create databases for various types of collections. You can associate all sorts of details with an item and use this information to sort and filter entire databases.

Cons

The trial version comes with a few restrictions. ReportCD lets you organize any collection, from books or stamps to software or games. Its features will help you sort all your items in a neat and logical manner.
